Poppy earrings
These lovely earrings each feature a delicate sterling silver poppy suspended on handmade ear wires.
To create the flowers I start with a circle cut from sterling silver. The circle is then beaten with a variety of hammers to build up an organic texture on the surface and to make the edges uneven. The circle is then domed into a cup-like shape.
The poppies have been blackened and then finished in way which leaves them with a shiny, dark grey metallic surface with silver showing through in places, particularly around the edges.
The etched areas have been given a soft and subtle white silver oxide finish by way of repeated heating. The raised areas have then been gently sanded back, leaving an eye-catching, shiny silver finish.
The earrings have a comfortable light weight to them and the poppies will hang so that that they tilt slightly downwards.
The poppies are approximately 0.9cm in diameter and 0.3cm (0.12”) deep. The ear wires are approximately 2.6cm (1”) tall – 3cm (1.2”) including the epoppies. At their deepest point, the ear wires are 2.1cm (0.8”).
