A contemporary rendering of an old Christmas tradition.

Mixing coins or charms into a traditional Christmas pudding is a long-standing British tradition, which also exists in other Commonwealth countries. If you find a coin in your slice of pudding on Christmas Day it is said to bring you luck for the forthcoming year - particularly where money is concerned!

Coins are the most commonly used Christmas pudding tokens, however, this tradition became endangered when silver coins were replaced by base metals which were deemed unsafe to cook with.

Recently I made a special set of tokens out of pure silver with vintage etchings for my Mum to use in her puddings - and they were a hit!

So I am now making them available for others to use and pass on through their own families as a heritage item.

About these tokens

The tokens come in a set of six. Each token is etched with a vintage Christmas illustration which has been slightly darkened. The tokens are given a slightly brushed finish and are then tumbled to give them a bright, shine.

They are made from pure silver. They will not oxidise in the way that sterling silver does and are perfectly safe for cooking with.

While they vary in size, the tokens average around 2cm (0.8") x 1.3cm (0.5"). They are 0.7mm thick (0.03"). See the photograph of the tokens in the palm of my hand to get a clearer idea of size.

What you'll receive

In addition to the six tokens, I will share with you my family's traditional Christmas pudding recipe which has been handed down for generations. This also comes with the recipe for my grandmother's very indulgent and delicious brandy sauce - which is essential for dolloping on your pudding!

I will also include information about how to use and care for your silver tokens.

Your tokens will be sent in a small case to keep them in. This case and the recipes will be wrapped with beautiful Christmas fabric - featuring either baubles for those outside of Australia or cherries for Australians.

Important

Please note that you may not receive exactly the same illustrations on your tokens as appears above. I do change the vintage designs from time to time, but also I always etch seven tokens to a set, having one spare should anything go wrong with the etching process. I will send you the best six. Please let me know if you have any particular preferences.
