Cameo pendant on silk
To create my own interpretation of a traditional cameo, I’ve first etched sterling silver with this beautiful detailed damask-type pattern. Then I’ve sawn the profile of a woman’s head out of the silver by hand. The piece has then been cut into a circle and then domed to form a curved surface.
The silver has then been blackened before being sanded back so that the raised areas of metal are a brushed but shiny silver finish, while the pattern and outline of the woman’s head are left black.
The cameo pendant is suspended on a piece of black natural silk thread and is finished with handmade sterling silver findings.
Through the profile of the female form will show either your skin or whatever you happen to be wearing under the pendant.
The pendant is approximately 2cm (0.9”) in diameter, while the silk necklace is approximately 43cm (17”) long. I can usually change both the length and colour if required – just ask.
The silk thread is designed for use in jewellery. It can be handwashed and even ironed if required.
Note that my jewellery is all individually handmade. The item you purchase may differ slightly from the one photographed. This is part of the beauty of handmade work – no two pieces are ever identical.
